Types of leaks
There are multiple types of leaks to keep in mind. Some leaks, for example, are prone to be site-specific. There can be leaks in your kitchen or bathroom and so on. We will cover the following three types in this blog post:
- Toilet leaks
- Slab leaks
- Gas leaks
Toilet leaks
Toilet leaks are among the most common plumbing problems. You might have a leak in your toilet if you hear suction or gurgling noises when you flush or if your toilet’s flushing seems inadequate and underperforming.
If you notice water pooling around the base of your toilet, that is usually a giveaway that we’re dealing with a leak. If left untreated, you can face serious problems down the road, including high water bills, mold, and even structural damage.
Slab leaks
Slab leaks are leaks that happen right under your home’s foundation. You likely won’t know you have a slab leak until you start noticing some troubling signs on your floors.
The easiest way to determine whether or not you have a water leak is by keeping track of your water bill. If you notice a sudden spike in your monthly bill, chances are water is being leaked somewhere in your home. A good rule of thumb is to check your water meter dial when your pipes are not in used — if the dial moves, you know you have a leak.
Another common symptoms of a slab leak in a home is damp or warm floors. This is because, as you can imagine, the water leaking from the underground pipes is making its way up and your floors start absorbing it. If you have a basement, you might also see cracks in the basement walls. If you have carpet on your floors, you can also expect to find moisture or mildew underneath — not to mention funny smells.
Gas leaks
Gas leaks are what happens when a pipe has a perforation or defect releasing gas into your environment. Out of all the leaks we have so far listed, gas leaks are perhaps the most dangerous –– if left untreated, they can be lethal.
The most common symptoms include rancid smells and hissing sounds. As with all types of leaks, you should not wait to enlist professional help. Here at Preferred Plumbing & Rooter Services, we are only one phone call away. Call us today: (877) 298-8105.
